All of these recipes have come down through the generations
from our Grandmothers.  We invite you to add your own Family Favourites to our collection.

Avalon's Applesauce
24 apples;  peel, core & cut-up 
2 Tblsp. water;  add to apples & puree   
Place in pot & bring to a boil.
Add  1c. honey + approx. 1/4c. brown sugar,  
     + 1/4 tsp. cinnamon  
Simmer, stirring frequently, 10-15 min.  
Turn off element & let cool slowly.  Mm-m-m  
(yield: 3 quarts)
 
 
Carrie's Applesauce Cake
1/4c. butter                              1 Tblsp. cinnamon 
1-1/2c. brown sugar                  1/8 tsp. ground cloves 
2c. applesauce (14oz. can)         (optional): 
1-2/3c. flour (your choice)              1c. golden raisins
 
1 tsp. baking soda                           1c. walnuts, chopped 
(Oven at 350°  ~  Grease loaf pan or muffin tins)
     Cream together, butter & sugar.  Stir in applesauce.  Stir together remaining dry ingredients, then add it to applesauce mixture.  If desired, add raisins and/or nuts. 
  Bake loaf approx. 1 hr., muffins 50 min., mini-muffins 35 min.
(toothpick must come out clean.)
 
 
Annette's Ginger Snaps
2c. flour                      3/4c. shortening 
1 Tblsp. ginger             1c. sugar  
2 tsp. baking soda        1 egg 
1 tsp. cinnamon             1/4c. molasses 
1/2 tsp. salt                 white sugar for top 
     Sift together first 5 dry ingredients.  Cream shortening & sugar; add egg & molasses.  Stir in sifted mixture.  Roll into balls, flatten & dip in extra sugar. 
Bake 12 min. at 350°      yield = 4 dozen
